Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger has revealed that the Gunners were close on signing Kylian Mbappe last year and attempted this summer before the Portugal 18-year-old loan to Paris Saint Fermain .
Mbappe will spend this season on loan at PSG and are expected to pay £165million next year to complete a permanent move.
Mbappe who scored 29 goals last season for Monaco as there were crowns French Champions, has admitted earlier that
he held meeting with Wenger for a possible Arsenal move, and he says the move was a “real option but PSG was the main option.”
“He was close on joining us, maybe close last year than this year because the competition was a bit s aller than it is today.” Wenger said.
“I personally think for 90 per-cent of players, their career depend on where they choose to go. But for 10 per-cent of players they can choose where they want and they’ll make a great career. He is in the 10 per-cent.
“He can close his eyes and chose ‘I will go here, I’ll go their’ to Madrid, to Aresenal, to Manchester United, and he’ll have a great career, he’s an exceptional football player.”
Arsenal clash with Bournemouth on Saturday
Arsenal, Wich will have their forth game of the season will play Bournemouth at the Emirate this Saturday, and Wenger will love nothing than to win after the 4-0 loss to Liverpool.
However, Arsenal have not win their last two matches and meanwhile
Mbappe is also yet to make his PSG debut.
